Child care affects business. How can that be?

Here's the big picture, for the long-term:

  • Job skills begin in early care.
  • Workers need to take directions, listen, complete tasks on time.
  • Children can learn those skills when they are very young.
  • Employers need stable, well-adjusted workers. Social skills and motivation can best be learned at an early age.
Here's the immediate picture:
  • Parents who bring high-stress family issues to work with them make mistakes, have accidents, and cause conflicts.
  • Quality child care reduces employee stress.
  • Children in inferior care suffer illness and accidents more often and parents miss work. Quality care reduces illness and accidents.
  • A workforce preoccupied with inadequate child care is not a reliable workforce.
Here's the economic impact:
  • Every $1 invested in quality care returns $7 through increased learning, reduced special education, less welfare, and less crime. (American City Business Journals, 4/14/03)
How can my employees find quality child care?
  • The Child Care Resource & Referral Agency of South Georgia can provide current information about providers. We can tell you which are the Homes or Centers of distinction.
  • Recommend your workers ask tough questions before choosing or changing child care providers. We can give you a list of questions to provide to your employees.

While we try to teach our children all about life, our children teach us what life is all about.
